Instagram Introduces Live Video, Disappearing Photos & Videos in Direct Messages
Instagram announced in a blog post on Monday two new ways to share in the moment: “live video on Instagram Stories and disappearing photos and videos for groups and friends in Instagram Direct.”
The Facebook-owned app continues to roll out updates in a clear attempt to usurp Snapchat’s position as the app for ephemeral photos and videos. Back in August, they launched Instagram Stories, and admitted that it was modeled directly off of Snapchat Stories. Last week, Instagram announced vertical video ads, a format formerly only found on Snapchat. This time around, it’s disappearing photo and video sharing via direct messages-- an obvious replication of Snapchat’s founding and core feature.
Disappearing photos and videos begin rolling out today and will become available globally over the next few weeks. Live video will roll out globally over the next few weeks.
