Snapchat Search Function: The Start of Something New?

Snapchat has announced an update that will finally make searching for your friends, groups, and Discover publishers easier.

Snapchat has been repeatedly critiqued for its user experience flaws and non-instinctive navigation. The new universal search bar is an encouraging development that will allow you to search for your friends, groups, Our Stories feeds, and publishers on Discover. No more swiping to 5 different places to view someone’s story, to start a chat, or to view the latest news updates. Undoubtedly a lot of time will be saved once this update rolls out to all users in coming weeks, but the issue of discovering new accounts to follow, or if you’re a creator the issue of building a following within the platform, still remains.

Nonetheless, improved search functions could be a boon to many brands, businesses, and influencers looking to expand their reach and build an audience. The search page could also potentially become the central hub for discovery within the app, which could be mean more drastic changes to come.
