A Letter from the Editor.
If you're on the email list (which you should be!), then you'll remember that I popped up in June to vaguely tease a big announcement. And now it's time to spill the beans:
My Snapfluence-- this lovely little site built from hard work and dedication and only surviving because of kind, PATIENT, ambitious readers like you-- was selected from among all the sites in the vast, cavernous corners of the internet for purchase. We done been bought.
“By whom?” You may ask…
Well, here’s a little about our new parent company ICX Media:
ICX Media is a technology platform that uses machine learning and AI to provide better video data. Basically, it can dive deeper than the social platforms data analytics and allows you to learn about your audience and your peers. Learning what your audience likes can inform new content ideas. They have a free creator platform that provides actionable recommendations (like “add these 5 tags,” “post at 3pm ET,” or “cut this video down to 2:38”) to help your content perform better.
The whole idea is to use data to make better content and to optimize the posting of that content in order to grow your social following!
It’s not exactly what we do around here. But, here’s why this makes sense:
ICX Media found us. They noticed the community we built and they recognized that Snapfluence knows how to communicate with creators. So they decided to pay us to keep doing just that-- instead of spinning up some awful corporatized version. They’re putting their money where their mouth is, namely paying creators to create things and helping creators learn and grow. And Snapfluence is one of the ways they’re doing it.
This isn’t a corporate takeover. ICX Media is a fellow startup, albeit a bigger one, but they’re a group of creative people exploring a new frontier of technology. And they’re creatives at heart.
I’ve been to visit them in DC… they’re cool people. (I made a white girl rosé joke to the CEO 🙊…)
So here’s what will and will NOT change:
We’ll now be able to provide better education on video. We believe video is the next frontier of all social (lots more on this to come).
We’ll be able to provide an incredible technical resource to creators. For free.
We will not stop producing meaningful content for you, including the content you’re used to seeing. Everything will not become solely geared toward video creators.
We will not change our tone or start censoring ourselves. Keep expecting curse words, opinion articles, a little wild speculation here and there, and some good old-fashioned Jurassic Park references.
As long as I am at the helm I promise to listen to you and to advocate for creators. So, here are a few things I need to hear from you:
What do you think about this? Are you excited?
Do you make videos? If not, why not? If yes, send me some links!
What are your most pressing questions about video?
Who are your favorite video creators to follow?
What is your favorite music video? (correct answer)
Hold on to yer butts. This is gonna be fun.
