We wanted to republish this post from June of 2017 from a creator we love and admire deeply. Last week @Alohacrabs made his final post on Instagram, having made the decision to stop treatment for cancer. Read his words about the preciousness of life and, more importantly, let his beautiful photos inspire you to take whatever chance you're contemplating today.
A few months ago I bought a one-way ticket from Seattle to Thailand with only one thing in mind: find inspiration from new places. It had been quite some time since I last traveled abroad but I knew that it was the perfect time to do it. I desperately needed to shake up my day-to-day lifestyle from working and staring at my computer, to aimlessly wandering around and seeing all that I can see.
Jobless, no real plans and my camera at hand - I was ready to see and experience all that I could while capturing moments along the way. From observing and learning new cultures through locals, to wandering around places by foot or tuk-tuk and seeing beautiful landscapes while on a boat, to spending a day at an elephant sanctuary or taking a moment to gaze at beautiful temples, I warmly embraced the new experiences.
I wholeheartedly believe that traveling to places completely different than your own reality has the ability to change you as a person. You just have to be open and willing to try new things. It has the power to impact the way you live and how you interact with people, especially those who live a life completely different from your own. Yes, there will certainly be times when you are forced to face situations out of your comfort zone. Moments where language barriers prohibit you from interacting and even moments that might seem shocking to you. These very moments will teach you about yourself, namely that there is still so much that you do not understand about the world.
All of this can happen, or it just might not. But speaking from experience, when it does, it’s magical. It truly changes you in more ways than you can imagine. Before you know it, your curiosity and thirst for this adventurous life will grow. So make time, get out there, and embrace the wonders of traveling.
